The first competition of 2020 has come to a close, and the annual Cellar Cleaner did not disappoint. There were nearly 30 entries ranging from rich, thick Imperial Stouts, to Semi-Sweet Meads and even a Cider and a Lambic. These were some of the overall, highest-scoring entries in any HRBC competition. This made it difficult for the judges trying to determine the top entries with so many styles, but they pushed through and in the end, three excellent entries were left standing.
Congratulations to Mike Weatherhill of VPH for winning 1st Place with Toil, his take on a classic 18B. American Pale Ale. 2nd place was won by Mike Piunno of VPH with Black Betty Stout, a dry, roasty, 15B. Irish Stout, and rounding out the top 3 was Carla Christian of 7CB and her and her, citrusy nose bomb, the Citra Session IPA (21A. American IPA).
